Monoplex mundus (Gould, 1849)
Mundus triton, 33mm
Monoplex mundus is common
in the Marshalls, and is found in a variety of lagoon and seaward reef habitats.
In addition to living under rocks, it also inhabits lagoon Halimeda
patches and is also often found clinging to the underside of floating docks
and on the algae and sponge-covered buoy lines.
The specimen above was shot at Kwajalein Atoll in 2009 using a digital camera,
and the one below at Enewetak Atoll in 1981 using Ektachrome film. That might
account for the difference in color.
