Stomatella auricula Lamarck, 1816
18.9mm

These are common under rocks on many shallow lagoon, pinnacle and seaward reefs. They are very active, fast moving snails with a large foot, the posterior portion of which can detach when the animal is disturbed, which may placate an attacking predator and give the animal enough time to get away. The species is either quite variable in color, or the numerous photos below may represent several different species.
