These
are common under rocks on many shallow lagoon, pinnacle and seaward reefs. They
are very active, fast moving snails with a large foot, the posterior portion
of which can detach when the animal is disturbed, which may placate an attacking
predator and give the animal enough time to get away. The species is either
quite variable in color, or the numerous photos below may represent several
different species.
