Apolemichthys griffisi (Carlson & Taylor, 1981)
Griffis angelfish, 30cm

This species is rare at Kwajalein, so far known only from a number of specimens all found from about 20 to 50m depth on the seaward slope on the southwestern tip of the atoll. In the Marshalls, it has also been seen at Mili Atoll. It was originally discovered and named from Kiribati (the Gilbert Islands) south of the Marshalls, but is now also known from the Carolines and Indonesia. We saw several specimens at Nauru Island in 1994.
