Centropyge vrolikii (Bleeker, 1853)
Pearlscale angelfish, 12cm

Clear members of this species are rare in the Marshall Islands, but they are well represented by hybrids with Centropyge flavissima, which are much more common. The few Centropyge vrolikii seen can be on lagoon or seaward reefs, and are usually included within a group of Centropyge flavissima. Full-blooded C. vrolikii are much more common in Pohnpei in the eastern Caroline Islands, where C. flavissima are rather rare. There is a juvenile tang that sometimes mimics these angels.

The slight yellow tinge to the specimens below and the faint blue around the eye suggest that they too may have some C. flavissima blood.
