We have these tentatively identified as Istiblennius edentulus, an intertidal reef dwelling species that according to the photos posted on Fishbase can be quite variable in color. The first three photos were taken at night on the intertidal at low tide.
The darker specimens in the two photos below were taken by Jay Lord in a shallow intertidal reef tide pool formed from discharge water from a nearby salt water swimming pool. Jay had to lie on the reef with his head and camera in the water to get the shot, and he reported the water had an odd tint to it.
These intertidal blennies are often preyed upon by shore birds such as the Pacific Reef Heron (Egretta sacra).
