This page links to photos of bryozoans or "moss animals" (phylum Bryozoa) that we have photographed in the Marshall Islands. Most of our photos of bryozoans were just taken in passing, and we did not make much effort to try to photograph them all. Consequently, these pages are certain to incompletely cover the bryozoan fauna of the Marshalls. Indeed, Cuffey & Cox (1987) list 84 bryozoan species from Enewetak Atoll in the northern Marshalls. Further, most of our species remain unidentified. It appears that close up examination of the skeletal anatomy is required to determine many species, a characteristic that even close up photography of living animals does not adequately display. Even those we have narrowed down to genera could be suspect. For suggestions or corrections, please contact uwkwaj@yahoo.com.
Measurements were not taken in the field, so sizes given are very rough eyeball estimates of the entire colony size, often based on distant memories, and are provided only as a general guideline of what to look for. The thumbnails below link to pages with additional, larger photographs.
