The common reef squid stays together in squads of a dozen to several dozen individuals, usually over shallow seaward and lagoon reefs. Often attracted to small boats, they can be seen milling around an anchor line.
A squad of squid.
Squid attach their white eggs to the undersides of rocks, often large dead overturned table corals, or in holes in the reef. The male and female will swim together down near the bottom, and the female will slip under the coral to attach the eggs. They will do this repeatedly until the entire egg mass is attached.
