Amphiprion tricinctus is the species most often found in the larger, non-colonial form of Entacmaea quadricolor. The anemones often have swollen bulbs near the tentacles tips, and the tentacles of the anemone in the first photo below are speckled with white.
The young Amphiprion tricinctus in the E. quadricolor below is darker than usual, looking more like a fish that has been in a carpet anemone, Stychodactyla mertensii.
The E. quadricolor anemones suffered some bleaching during the El Niño in the fall of 2009, when lagoon water temperatures peaked at 86°F for more than a month. Most of them seemed to survive the bleaching episode.
