Dascyllus melanurus Bleeker, 1854
Blacktail damsel, 8cm

This damsel was reported as a sight record only with no photo some years ago. Despite considerable looking, we did not see one of these personally. The specimen in the first two photos was found and photographed by Christina Sylvester in one of the Kwajalein reef quarries where it was mixed in with a bunch of Dascyllus auranus. It appeared to be trying to get some of the D. aruanus interested in mating. The other three photos, also Christina's, were from shallow water on the lagoon side of Kwajalein in the ski boat area.
