One of the larger files at Kwaj, Cantherhines dumerilii is rather common on lagoon, pinnacle and seaward reefs. While most individuals are rather shy and keep their distance, occasionally it is possible to get close enough to one to get a decent photograph. They feed mostly by biting off chunks of living coral, but they will also eat other invertebrates such as echinoids, mollusks and sponges.
