Soleichthys heterorhinos (Bleeker, 1856)
Banded sole, 18cm

Soleichthys heterorhinos is uncommon at Kwajalein, but can be found on both lagoon and seaward reefs, usually in or around sand patches. It readily buries itself under a thin layer of sand but swims out when the sand is disturbed. We have seen them up to about 12cm. Its coloration and manner of swimming make it look something like a flatworm.
