Valenciennea strigata (Broussonet, 1782)
Bluestreak goby or Gravel gobbler, 18cm

These are common, usually in pairs, in lagoon and seaward reef sand patches near reefs. They feed by taking mouthfuls of sand, sorting out the edibles in their mouths, and dropping the undigestible sand out their gill openings. They will usually dive into sand burrows when approached.
