Alatina alata (Reynaud, 1830)
Box jelly, 75mm (not including tentacles)

These are two frames captured from low resolution Hi8 video at night on the seaward Kwajalein Atoll reef. This medium sized box jelly appeared to be attracted to our boat or dive lights. One of us was slightly stung on the finger, which caused excruciating pain for some time, until application of something from a bee-sting kit we kept on the boat was applied. After that, the pain gradually decreased.
