Marshall Islands Ribbon Worms (Nemertea)

This page links to photos of Nemerteans, or Ribbon Worms, we have seen in the Marshall Islands. Most remain unidentified, or are only tentatively identified based on the few references listed below. Specimens tend to be very elongate and narrow, and usually live under rocks or tangled up in algae in lagoon beds of Halimeda algae.

Measurements were not taken in the field and animals were not collected, so any sizes given are usually very rough eyeball estimates often based on distant memories, and are provided only as a general guideline of what to look for. These ribbon worns are especially difficult to estimate since they are often seen contracted and tangled, and rarely stretch out enough in a straight line to get a good measurement.
