Solenostomus sp. 1 appears to be a species sometimes referred to as the velvet ghost pipefish. We have seen these both on seaward reefs and lagoon pinnacles.
The individual below was hiding among the branches of an orange gorgonian on a lagoon pinnacle on 17 August 2009.
