Zenopontonia
soror
(Nobili, 1904)
Virtually
every adult Culcita star is occupied by usually several small commensal
shrimp that often blend in very well with some parts of the star they live on,
making them very hard to see. Since the stars are so variable, though, as the
shrimp move around onto contrasting backgrounds, they can be spotted. Consequently,
most often the shrimp are on the underside of the star. Until recently, this
species was placed in the genus Periclimenes.
