I saw this species rarely, usually on algae and sandy bottoms at depths of 5 to 15m at night. The one below was along the coast between Makua and Kaena Point, Oahu. Considered by some a young specimen of Atys naucum, but if so, the color of the animal would have to change considerably as it grows, as in the linked specimen from the Philippines.
