Bursa rosa (Perry, 1811)
50mm
Bursa
rosa is moderately
common on reefs and in Halimeda algae patches on seaward and lagoon
reefs and pinnacles. This species has a long and apparently rather strong
proboscis. We once saw a specimen attacked by a much larger Conus textile.
Even after the cone had stung the Bursa with its venomous harpoon,
the Bursa extended its proboscis and pushed the cone animal back into
its shell. While the cone was retracted, the Bursa made its escape.
A couple of pictures of this event are on the Conus
textile page.
Animal color looks very similar
to Bursa tuberosissima.
