Giant clam - Tridacna gigas

This one growing in shallow water along the east reef was another old friend. This one was missed when a group of fishermen swept up the reef, taking the animals from every large clam they could find. Over the subsequent years, it grew quite nicely and was a welcome sight whenever we stopped at this reef. Unfortunately, a second wave of fishermen found this and several other growing clams on the reef only days before this photo was taken.
