This was another clam we watched for quite a few years. I think this is the largest shell I know, but I never got around to measuring it. It was obviously old, with nearly the entire exterior of the shell covered with live coral colonies. We found it empty, and it had been that way, for a year or so, in August of 2009. This one, however, almost certainly died of natural causes. It was deeper than the fishermen usually go and hard to find. Other T. gigas in the same area, not quite as large as this one but still pretty good sized, were a lot easier to see and were untouched.
