Turritriton labiosus (Wood, 1828)
Labiosum triton,
17.2mm
Turritriton labiosus is
moderately rare in the Marshalls.
Specimens have been found on lagoon and seaward reefs under rocks and in Halimeda
patches at depths of 6 to 16m. Like Monoplex
comptus, the shells come in a variety of colors. Considering the colors
of the protoconchs, ranging from near black to light brown, even the larval
shells must come in different colors. Fourteen measured specimens ranged from
10.5 to 17.2mm in length.
Below a small white specimen rides
piggyback on a larger black one.
