Turritriton? sp. 1
Triton, 24.0mm
We are tentatively calling this a Turritriton
due to its similarity to Turritriton
labiosus. It differs in its larger size, more pronounced
but fewer axial ribs, and considerably different animal coloration. This species
is rare in the Marshalls
with 5 known specimens ranging in length from 20.9 to 24.0mm. Specimens have
been found on lagoon and seaward reefs under rocks and in Halimeda
patches at depths of 6 to 16m. The shells vary in color, but most are brown
to dark brown, often with an irregular whie band below the sutures.
