Centropyge multicolor Randall & Wass, 1974
Multicolor angelfish, 9cm

This is a rather common species, but only in relatively deeper water on seaward reefs. About the shallowest we have seen them is abour 16m, so they only rarely overlap with the shallower Centropyge loriculus. They start to become common around 25m on the seaward slope. We have not seen this species in the lagoon at all. We did see a fish that appeared to be a hybrid between this species and Centropyge bispinosa, but did not get a photo. The hybrid had the basic color of C. bispinosa with the rear half of the center of the body whitish yellow and the tail yellow like a C. multicolor.

Juveniles usually have a black "eyespot" on the posterior portion of the dorsal fin.
