Antipathes grandis Verrill, 1928

This finely branched large black coral species was common on the seaward reef below about 45m and on some lagoon shipwrecks. It is commonly occupied by one or two long nose hawkfish Ocycirrhites typus. The sole specimen of the black coral eating ovulid snail Phenacovolva poppei at Kwajalein was found on a large bush on the seaward reef at about 45m.

Dead branches of this bush were colonized by Nemanthus sea anemones.

Laege bushes could be found on several shipwrecks, including the Palawan off Bigej Island.

An expecially impressive bush graced the top of the forward mast.
