Scleractinean
and other Stony Corals
This
page will eventually show some of the reef building corals. Positive identification
of many corals generally relies on detailed examination of the skeletal structure,
something we have not done, so our IDs must be regarded as somewhat tentative.
We welcome corrections at uwkwaj@yahoo.com. We did not spend much time photographing
corals. Many of our photos were taken simply to finish off a roll of film at
the end of dive, so many species from the Marshalls were certainly missed.
Note that most of the families
below contain species with vastly different growth forms, so the thumbnails
below cannot be reliably used to try to track down a species observed in the
field.
The section
will be in process for some time. New pages are added in a haphazard manner.
Each
thumbnail links additional photos.
