Scleractinean and other Stony Corals

This page will eventually show some of the reef building corals. Positive identification of many corals generally relies on detailed examination of the skeletal structure, something we have not done, so our IDs must be regarded as somewhat tentative. We welcome corrections at uwkwaj@yahoo.com. We did not spend much time photographing corals. Many of our photos were taken simply to finish off a roll of film at the end of dive, so many species from the Marshalls were certainly missed.

Note that most of the families below contain species with vastly different growth forms, so the thumbnails below cannot be reliably used to try to track down a species observed in the field.
