This apparently unnamed species could be found quite commonly at subtidal dive sites such as Makua and Pupukea, Oahu, and Puako, Hawaii, but it seemed to be exclusively nocturnal. All our specimens, up to 15 on a dive in one case, were found only at night. The same species also occurs in the Marshall Islands, although there its body tends to be a bit more yellow.
