Antennarius pictus (Shaw & Nodder, 1794)
Painted frogfish, 30cm

Antennarius pictus is uncommon to rare at Kwajalein, but is still one of the frogfish species most frequently encountered. It comes in a number of other color forms, including orange, red, white and black, all shown on separate pages. The green one on this page was very similar to the orange-brown Antennarius pictus we have seen, but this is the first frogfish we could call green. It was large, around 100mm or perhaps a bit more, and was observed at night in a lagoon Halimeda algae patch.
