Antennarius pictus (Shaw & Nodder, 1794)
Painted frogfish, 30cm

Antennarius pictus is uncommon to rare at Kwajalein, but is still one of the frogfish species most frequently encountered. It comes in a number of distinct color forms, including green, orange, white and black, all shown on separate pages. We found this nestled up next to a small chunk of sponge on an otherwise relatively barren sandy lagoon slope at a depth of about 25m on 23 November 2012. The specimen looked to be about 30mm in length.
