Antennarius pictus (Shaw & Nodder, 1794)
Painted frogfish, 30cm

Antennarius pictus is uncommon to rare at Kwajalein, but is still one of the frogfish species most frequently encountered. It comes in a number of distinct color forms, including green, red, white and black, all shown on separate pages. So far we have found three specimens of this orange brown color form, all in patches of Halimeda algae and two of them nestled against a common, tough, orange brown sponge. The largest individual was about 60mm in length. The first two photos show the first specimen, found on 1 March 2008.

The next three shots show a fish found on 5 July 2010.

The fish in the four shots below was found on 26 February 2012.
